Bonnie & Sean had such a gorgeous wedding! Blush & Gold is really really popular this season and to be completely honest if everything in my house was dipped in gold glitter I would not be mad about it. Just sayin’ So of course I squealed with excitement when I walked into their wedding reception and saw the gold glitter table cloth accents! TO DIE FOR. Of course every other detail was matched to perfection and I loved it all, everything from Bonnie’s gorgeous lace gown, to her bridesmaids flowing blush dresses, to the beautiful bouquets, the candlelit church aisle, vintage getaway car, and the glamorous transformation of the barn reception! Yes I loved it all! And I know you will too! So enjoy this sweet couple’s beautiful wedding!
Hello Blog Friends! Happy Monday!! Hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July weekend! Aric & I have been in Chicago with his family, celebrating and taking a short break from the madness of Summer! We had a big 4th of July get together with his whole family in basically “the middle of nowhere” Illinois, then came back and watched a Cubs game at Wrigley field on Saturday, and spent a relaxing Sunday hangin’ out and window shopping… As much as I love to travel…I can’t wait to be home and back to work!
Okay! Enough about that! This blog post is for Amanda & Kyle!! I had met Amanda here and there throughout the past few years through mutual friends. She was always so sweet and then we would go months before I would see her again…Fast forward to the end of last year – Her & Kyle started coming to our small group at church! It made sense…they were obviously a forever couple and our group of married, newlywed, and almost married couples welcomed them with open arms. I don’t even know when or how it happened, but we became friends! The days of looking at them from a distance thinking “Gosh, they are like the coolest couple ever” were over! We caught a couple late night movies together, spent some Thursday’s at Chuy’s eating lots of free chips and queso together and then Kyle finally popped the question!!
So…this was a particularly hard shoot.
Aric & I were honored and a little bit nervous when they asked us to take their engagement pictures! If you can’t just tell from their wardrobe choices – these two are artistic and fashionable and a million other words you would use to describe someone who might make you nervous to take their engagement pictures! It’s always a little bit challenging when a couple has a really distinct style – you want to make sure that the photos you take of them are going to be a good representation of them!
It’s one of the hardest things about being a photographer: constantly balancing our couples’ personal style with our own photographic style. Every year, we are blessed to work with tons of different couples in different cities. And though we strive to make each session different, shooting each couple uniquely in “their” way poses a risk that our work could be all over the board…and when you hire a photographer for your ONE-TIME BIG event, you want to know that they can deliver consistent images…it’s pretty important!! We personally believe it’s our job to photograph our couples’ personalities and connection first and locations second. This allows us to capture images that are very “them” and that they love, but with locations and posing that reflect our style that they came to us for. However, with Kyle and Amanda, they felt that their personalities were best represented in their clothes, the different locations in Marfa, stylish posing and unique composition of the images…almost the opposite of how we usually shoot. Again, we wanted to make sure that we could capture images in the style they wanted, but in a way that was as consistent as possible with our style…after all, what a fun couple and unique session to be a part of!!
So we found a free Monday- took a little road trip down to Marfa with these two and spent the day shooting and exploring the wonders of Marfa, TX. We got a trailer to stay in at El Cosmico called Little Pinky, while Kyle and Amanda spent the night in a Safari Tent! They even have tepees you can stay in!!! (Check them out here) Every nook and cranny of El Cosmico was so cute and it felt like these two were at home! Marfa was quite the adventure and we can’t wait to go back! We tried to see as much as we could, all the while shooting a session and stopping for breakfast, lunch and dinner, popping into coffee shops and thrift stores and trying to find places that weren’t closed! (FYI – if you’re gonna visit Marfa it’s best to go Thursday – Sunday) We also saw a few wedding venues down there that we wouldn’t mind shooting a wedding at **hint hint.
And of course, the last stop on our trip was the Prada Marfa art installment that actually wasn’t even in Marfa, it was about a 45 minute drive from Marfa, but it was cool to see nonetheless. And I love love love the images that we got while we were there! I figure I have rambled on long enough and it’s time to share some images!! On another side note the first few images we shot the night before on our road trip down to Marfa – we were just driving along when we saw the sand dunes and we just HAD to stop, so luckily we had some models with us and Kyle and Amanda were sweet enough to entertain us for a bit while we got some shots before the sun went down!
Enjoy Amanda & Kyle and their Marfa Engagement Session!

Ashley + Taylor’s wedding here in Lubbock at Lakeridge
Kelly + Patrick’s wedding in San Antonio at the Southwest School of Art
And Andrea + Ric’s wedding in Napa Valley at Sylvan Lake Estates!
How in the world can it already be Wednesday of this week?! I’ve been so looking forward to this week because…(we’re home all week!!) Haha! We’ve been going non-stop…Lubbock, Austin, Midland, Albuquerque and Aric went back to Austin this weekend!! I’m so excited to finally be back home and getting to edit all the beautiful pictures that we’ve been taking the past several weeks! Weddings and sessions and so many sweet, beautiful couples!
Andrea and Ric. Seriously. These two. Could they BE any more adorable together? How or why we get so many couples that look like they came straight out of a fashion magazine is still a mystery to me- but I’m not complaining! When a couple looks like Andrea and Ric do and who simply adore each other like they do- our job is pretty easy. We’ve been looking forward to meeting them for almost a year now! Andrea contacted us last summer about her wedding this coming August in the Napa area! She gushed about her fiance and their wedding plans and I pretty much fell in love with her strong, sweet spirit as I got to know her more and more through emails. Ric proposed to her at the end of a half marathon that they ran and finished together!! What a sweet sweet surprise to be awaiting her at the end of that! I love it! We learned that these two are adventurers, who love traveling and being outdoors. They’re kind of a power couple- who I’m so excited to know and honestly I can’t wait to see them as a bride and groom on their wedding day. We feel truly honored to get to be a part of their celebration!
Hope you guys enjoy a few of our favorites from their session in Austin!
…it takes them 2 years to finally post the photos! Haha…okay not really for most people. But sadly it did take me 2 years to actually finally sort through all 6,000+ images that we took from our travels and choose some favorites to share with you all. Every time I would start to sort through the photos I would get so overwhelmed and start to feel guilty for spending so much time working on my own photos instead of our clients and so I would stop and put it off for another day. Well that day has finally arrived and I hope you guys can enjoy these and be taken away to another place if only for a few minutes, today!
Lately we’ve had several friends who are either about to travel overseas or have just come back from trips and it’s had me reminiscing about going back to Europe and shooting and traveling with my favorite travel partner (Aric of course). We’ve been talking about going again sometime sooner rather than later… And I simply cannot wait. I believe it’s something everyone should do at least once in their life! Life is too short and there’s SO much of the world to see and experience! I don’t care what you have to do…start saving now! and make it happen!
There’s way too many photos for me to explain each one of them, but as an overview all these photos are either in Paris or Bordeaux France, On a train going through the Alps, in Milan, Cique Terre, Lake Como, or Lake Maggiore Italy, or in London! And yes they are from 2 years ago, hence my short hair in all the photos!
Happy Tuesday everyone!! I keep thinking today is Wednesday because it’s been FOREVER since I’ve blogged two days in a row! Woah! I know! Well it’s been a fun morning going back through K’Lann & Joe’s gorgeous outdoor wedding in the Texas Hill Country! This couple is just precious! They are so in love and it was such a joy to be around them on their wedding day! Exciting doesn’t even begin to describe it! They got married at the beautiful Memory Lane Event Center in Dripping Springs surrounded by family and friends and all of K’Lann’s amazingly beautiful DIY details! This girl is SO creative! Every single detail was handmade (with love) by K’Lann and her friends! I loved the whimsical pink and turquoise decor! It was so fun and different from anything we have seen all year! And I always love different!
I tried out a new border with these images! So let me know if you guys like the rounded corners?! I thought they were fun! But I need some feedback, please!
Hope you guys enjoy a few favorites from this sweet wedding! Leave some love in the comments below for them!
Every time I look back through this wedding I just can’t help but smile. It always reminds me that at the end of the day come rain or shine all that matters for your wedding day is that you’re married to the person of your dreams. And yes all the details are great and fun – but really who cares if they’re not perfect. Weddings aren’t supposed to be about that anyway. They are about vowing to love and care for and honor and respect the person standing next to you like no one else. They are about bringing two families together and making them one. They are about celebrating the beautiful commitment of marriage and love to one person for the rest of your life. And truly Aubrey and Nate’s wedding was a celebration and reflection of all of that. It rained. And they laughed. And hand in hand they walked down the aisle together as husband and wife and surely they thought-what a funny memory to share to our future kids and grandkids about our wedding day. Paa-Ko Ridge Golf Course was an absolute dream venue to shoot at. Hidden away up in the mountains of Albuquerque, Paa-Ko was an oasis of lush greenery and stunning mountaintop views! Aubrey and Nate were so much fun and SO in love! It was definitely an easy day of shooting to capture their love with our cameras!
Hope you guys enjoy a few of our favorites!
Notice the raindrops in these next two pictures?! I love it!! It was so beautiful!
Seriously, ya’ll don’t even know how good it feels to finally be catching up!!! With only 2 weddings in my que for editing I am starting to feel the breath of releif!! And noticing more and more time in my day to finally get back to blogging all these beautiful weddings we have been a part of!! I wanted to start with Sharon and James!! They had such a classy and elegant wedding in Houston earlier this year and we are so thankful we got to be a part of it! These two are Doctor’s in Houston! Not only are they smart, they are so sweet and fit together so well! The girls got ready at the Hotel ZaZa in Houston. And Sharon’s Caparros shoes and Winnie Couture gown were absolutely as stunning as she was! The guys got ready at James & Sharon’s apartment and looked ever so dapper in their classic bow ties. Their wedding was held at The Cohen House on Rice University Campus. And can I just say, Rice is a beautiful campus! Trees everywhere! And so much history! I wish we had more time to just wander around the campus! Right after the wedding they hopped in their getaway car and met all their guests at Brennan’s Houston. It was the perfect place for their elegant affair!
Hope you guys enjoy some of our favorite images from their wedding!
Their first look was SO sweet!! They were so happy and excited to see each other!
There was just something so timeless about this image in sepia! I love it!
And they’re off to the reception!
They had such a fun dance party!
Congrats you guys! Thanks so much for letting us be a part! You’re day was absolutely beautiful!
This beautiful girl got married a few weeks ago!! And lucky for us we got to shoot some of her bridals at Paa-ko Ridge Golf Course in Albuquerque where she got married!! It is absolutely beautiful up there in the mountains! Quite a difference from what we’re used to here in Lubbock! Hope you all enjoy a few pictures of this gorgeous girl and the gorgeous view!
