That unexplainable thing that sweeps you off your feet when you least expect it. It’s laughter and kisses and cuddles and being wrapped up so completely in a single moment that you forget all about the rest of the world around you…
Aric did such an awesome job on Brooke & Jonothon’s engagement session!! Since I do all the editing whether I shoot it or not, it’s so fun sometimes to see a shoot that I wasn’t able to be a part of and give a little praise to my hubs for his awesome work! I remember telling him the plans for the shoot and getting him all set up to go – Brooke wanted to shoot at Jonathon’s Aunt’s home, so that’s where Aric was going to meet them. It’s a little nerve-wracking sometimes when clients pick certain locations. We’ve shot at grandma’s houses and on family farms and ranches and you just never know what you’re gonna get! You never know if the lighting will be good? If the decor will be good? It could all just completely clash, but for the most part even though it’s a little scary at first those types of sessions always turn out so well! Aric was pleasantly surprised and I think he might have had a little too much to work with because he said he couldn’t decide where to shoot! Haha! But I love the way they turned out. Everything was so colorful and I just feel like these two were a little more comfortable being a place that was familiar to them! When I look at them I think, AW, I wanna be snuggled up with my sweetheart on that bench! haha! It’s just too much cuteness in one session so get ready!
I was just reminiscing about the warmer weather a little bit today and Courtney & Jarrel had one of the most beautiful days for their engagement session here in Lubbock! These two will be tying the knot in Midland this summer and I can’t wait to be a part of it! AND I can’t wait for the warmer weather!! It’s always a little slow when it comes to the engagement and bridal shoots this time of year. It’s cold. It’s obviously not very pretty outside. There isn’t much green. Everything pretty much looks dead – so every day we are looking at the calendar booking shoots for April and May and every year this time is such a blessing, because I can see the madness that is about to ensue once the warm weather returns and I can’t wait for it! But at the same time, this is just about the only break we have so I’m taking in stride, enjoying the days when I finish work before 7 PM or the fact that when a friend calls and says Hey! Let’s go hang out I’m off work today I feel a little less guilty leaving my computer for a few hours to enjoy some fellowship with friends. I’m on a mission this week to get some blog posts up! So ya’ll come back!!
Hello Blog Friends! Happy Monday!! Hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July weekend! Aric & I have been in Chicago with his family, celebrating and taking a short break from the madness of Summer! 😉 We had a big 4th of July get together with his whole family in basically “the middle of nowhere” Illinois, then came back and watched a Cubs game at Wrigley field on Saturday, and spent a relaxing Sunday hangin’ out and window shopping… As much as I love to travel…I can’t wait to be home and back to work!
Okay! Enough about that! This blog post is for Amanda & Kyle!! I had met Amanda here and there throughout the past few years through mutual friends. She was always so sweet and then we would go months before I would see her again…Fast forward to the end of last year – Her & Kyle started coming to our small group at church! It made sense…they were obviously a forever couple and our group of married, newlywed, and almost married couples welcomed them with open arms. I don’t even know when or how it happened, but we became friends! The days of looking at them from a distance thinking “Gosh, they are like the coolest couple ever” were over! We caught a couple late night movies together, spent some Thursday’s at Chuy’s eating lots of free chips and queso together and then Kyle finally popped the question!! 😉
So…this was a particularly hard shoot.
Aric & I were honored and a little bit nervous when they asked us to take their engagement pictures! If you can’t just tell from their wardrobe choices – these two are artistic and fashionable and a million other words you would use to describe someone who might make you nervous to take their engagement pictures! It’s always a little bit challenging when a couple has a really distinct style – you want to make sure that the photos you take of them are going to be a good representation of them!
It’s one of the hardest things about being a photographer: constantly balancing our couples’ personal style with our own photographic style. Every year, we are blessed to work with tons of different couples in different cities. And though we strive to make each session different, shooting each couple uniquely in “their” way poses a risk that our work could be all over the board…and when you hire a photographer for your ONE-TIME BIG event, you want to know that they can deliver consistent images…it’s pretty important!! We personally believe it’s our job to photograph our couples’ personalities and connection first and locations second. This allows us to capture images that are very “them” and that they love, but with locations and posing that reflect our style that they came to us for. However, with Kyle and Amanda, they felt that their personalities were best represented in their clothes, the different locations in Marfa, stylish posing and unique composition of the images…almost the opposite of how we usually shoot. Again, we wanted to make sure that we could capture images in the style they wanted, but in a way that was as consistent as possible with our style…after all, what a fun couple and unique session to be a part of!!
So we found a free Monday- took a little road trip down to Marfa with these two and spent the day shooting and exploring the wonders of Marfa, TX. We got a trailer to stay in at El Cosmico called Little Pinky, while Kyle and Amanda spent the night in a Safari Tent! 😉 They even have tepees you can stay in!!! (Check them out here) Every nook and cranny of El Cosmico was so cute and it felt like these two were at home! Marfa was quite the adventure and we can’t wait to go back! We tried to see as much as we could, all the while shooting a session and stopping for breakfast, lunch and dinner, popping into coffee shops and thrift stores and trying to find places that weren’t closed! (FYI – if you’re gonna visit Marfa it’s best to go Thursday – Sunday) We also saw a few wedding venues down there that we wouldn’t mind shooting a wedding at **hint hint. 😉
And of course, the last stop on our trip was the Prada Marfa art installment that actually wasn’t even in Marfa, it was about a 45 minute drive from Marfa, but it was cool to see nonetheless. And I love love love the images that we got while we were there! I figure I have rambled on long enough and it’s time to share some images!! On another side note the first few images we shot the night before on our road trip down to Marfa – we were just driving along when we saw the sand dunes and we just HAD to stop, so luckily we had some models with us and Kyle and Amanda were sweet enough to entertain us for a bit while we got some shots before the sun went down!
Enjoy Amanda & Kyle and their Marfa Engagement Session!
Happy Wedding Season everyone!!!! 😉 What a crazy beautiful time it is around here! I cannot wait to share some previews of our latest sessions & weddings! When I looked up and saw that it was already almost halfway through June I couldn’t believe it!! Time is just passing me by! As I sit in my office and edit all my days away! And much like myself – not many photos are getting to see the light of day! But I had to put an end to it! So today I sat outside on our patio to eat my lunch and vowed that I would get together a blog post of previews to share with you all! I also vowed to set aside time during my day to read a book (It’s been so long since I’ve done that!), and to do something that isn’t work related with Aric- like go on a date, or work on a project for the house together, or go to barnes and noble and plan our Europe vacation for September!! I vowed to work harder- get things done and then spend my evenings like normal people do when they get off work! 😉 So here’s to being hopeful and making changes for the better! I culled 3 or 4 weddings and 2 sessions yesterday, and after this post I’ll be trying to edit one full wedding like I did this morning before the day is over! Let’s make these things happen!
Happy Tuesday everyone! Enjoy seeing our client’s pretty faces!! 😉
(These are in no particular order!) Starting with Bonnie & Sean’s beautiful classic church wedding mixed with a rustic reception in Bonnie’s grandparent’s barn! The transformation was incredible! Complete with a gold glitter table runner for the head table, lots of soft pink color accents and beautiful flower arrangements! I love that they set aside time to do a first look and get all of their formal group shots done before the ceremony! That gave us lots of room to get some beautiful and unique portraits of them, and they got to enjoy every minute of their reception!
Amy & Jonathan are adorable! In case you can’t tell! And they were so so sweet to each other during their session!! I can’t wait to share these with you!
Lindsay & Daniel got married out at Ransom Canyon Lake and they had their reception at Lindsay’s Aunt & Uncle’s beautiful home! There was a boat getaway car, dancing on the dock, and lots of fun with their closest family and friends! And best of all, you just can’t beat a sunset like this one off the water! The sky turned every color of the rainbow during their sunset! And I’m thankful we were able to capture it for them!
Collin & Amanda were married at The Legacy Event Center here in downtown Lubbock. Aric & I are beyond familiar with The Legacy, but sometimes that can be a treat! We know exactly how to shoot it and still make it a challenge to find something unique to shoot every time we’re there! Amanda was stunning! And her dress choice was absolutely perfect! It could be one of my favorites! These two met at J&B coffee so of course – J&B was there servin’ up their delicious brews to all their guests!! I loved how the incorporated so many personal things into their wedding day!
Cody & Chelsey! I really can’t say enough about this sweet couple!! They had a beautiful wedding at FBC Lubbock with an equally as beautiful reception over at The Frazier Alumni Pavilion on Tech Campus!! One of my favorite parts of every wedding is really listening to the preacher during the ceremony! I always walk away with a good word to remind me to be a better wife and love my husband well. Their’s was no different! I can’t wait to share more from their wedding!
Matt & Allye! Yet ANOTHER absolutely gorgeous couple! Thankfully we have really amazing friends who go off to Harvard for business school and meet people like Matt & Allye so then we get a referral to shoot their wedding! There’s way too much to be said about this couple. We attended their wedding rehearsal the night before their wedding and person after person – family members and friends alike got up to give toasts to these two and commend them for being basically the most amazing people any of them had ever met! Guests talked about they love for the Lord, for life and for one another – and how they love people so well. Aric & I felt like we were missing out not having known them before – but we will definitely consider them friends from here on out! They had the perfect wedding at a beautiful venue in Downtown Dallas called Three Three Three First Avenue (also the address of the venue). It was planned to perfection and it was a glorious celebration of them just as they deserved!
Umm… I’ve been so excited about these two’s fun engagement session in Marfa!!! I can’t believe I still haven’t blogged them!! Obviously just by looking they are rock stars. But they are the kindest most genuine people ever. I’m so glad we wound up in the same small group at our church with them, because they are such a blessing to our lives! And I just feel cooler saying that they are our friends! 😉 I have so much to tell about our trip to Marfa with them and seriously – Their photos belong in a magazine, because they look like supermodels/rock stars!
Meet Laura. One of our brides that should be a real life bridal model. Honestly. I feel like most of her photos belong in a magazine or on an ad for her bridal gown designer – because she’s stunning! Everywhere we went and everything we asked her to do was effortless for her!
John & Bailie!! Bailie is Amanda’s sister (from above!) (In case you couldn’t already tell) It was such a pleasure getting to be a part of both of their weddings! Bailie had a beautiful hometown wedding in Pampa at her Grandparent’s barn! Again! Another incredible transformation of a barn! I can’t wait to show you! And I had the exciting joy of having Cristy Cross come and second shoot with me for their wedding! It was way too much fun! Bailie is so easy going and beautiful, and John – although he claimed he hated having his picture taken was a natural in front of the camera! 😉 They too included so many personal details in their wedding, including a hammock (because he proposed on a hammock) and sand from the beach where he proposed as the sand they used in their sand ceremony! Not to mention the cherry blossoms as decor and their Cherry jam wedding favors because their new last name is Cherry! I adore details like that!
Kenny & Amber are happy. And it shows in every single one of their engagement photos!! We’ve never had so many natural smiles and laughs! They were so much fun and seriously – just so stinkin’ cute! They are dealing with a long distant engagement as he’s on the West coast in California! He’s somewhat of a biking prodigy (in my opinion anyway) (he biked all the way from Texas to Canada!! – I hope I’m remembering that correctly – It was probably even longer) So they incorporated their bikes in the session and I couldn’t get over how adorable Amber’s bike dress was! So fitting for them! And I won’t deny that I’m a little jealous of her perfectly curled hair! I can’t wait for their wedding in August!
Luke & Carly are old friends of Aric’s from Albuquerque! I love their love story and how they had so many mutual friends growing up but didn’t meet each other until the time was just right for them to fall in love! They were so much fun during their engagement session! And we had fun trying to incorporate all things “Albuquerque” into their session including cactus (like you see below), the mountains and lots of other things!
Here’s our bridal model again! 😉 Laura married Will in April and they had a gorgeous classic wedding at St. Elizabeth’s Cathedral downtown. With that gorgeous backdrop, bouquets by College Flowers, some unique personal details, an awesome dance party and a Maid of Honor speech that has surpassed all other maid of honor speeches Aric & I have ever heard – the wedding was a success and it was such a joy to be a part of!
Edwin & Becky also got married at The Legacy Event Center! Here’s what I was talking about when I said we always try to find something different to shoot while we’re there! You might remember them from their engagement session – and Edwin is still making Becky laugh! They too had a gorgeous wedding with beautiful accents of Jade and an awesome dance party for their guests!! Not to mention 4 Frames Photobooths was there to capture lots of fun too! 😉 Check out their photo booth blog post here: 4 Frames
Did I mention before that Carly & Luke had the most gorgeous Backyard wedding and reception?! Perfect weather, lovely decor, gorgeous couple! Yes. It was beautiful! Carly was such a fun bride! And they had a wonderful bridal party, most of which Aric knew so it was fun for him to get to see some old friends! I’m nearing the end here and feel like I’m saying the same thing about each couple – but I can’t help but be so thankful for each and every one! They are all so great! And it’s such a blessing to be a part of each and every one of their big days!
And lastly – here’s one from our latest engagement session in Downtown Fort Worth at the Stockyards! Josh & Brooke had their first date in the Stockyards so what could be a more fitting place for their engagement photos?! These two are both Doctors with very busy schedules, but in their free time they love to go two-stepping and go out to hear local Fort Worth music! (I love when our couples have fun hobbies that they share with us!) We made our way around the stockyards and then ended up at Cadillac’s where they had dinner on that first date! Can’t wait to share some more from their session!
Ya’ll…we have the greatest friends! Really and truly! I’ve made it a goal of mine for the year to take more personal photos. If you’re a photographer reading this, you know how hard it is to actually WANT to carry that big camera around with you when you do things. You don’t want to feel like you’re working, you don’t want to carry it, keep up with it, or have to worry about working on those “personal” photos later when you know you’ve got so many other photos to work on for paying clients!
But when I do that – I miss out on capturing the simple day to day moments that we have and enjoy! So Aric & I have been pushing each other to bring the camera along when we do things. We’ve left it several times, but like I said we’re trying to get better!
So here are a few snapshots of what’s been happening around here!
We LOVE game nights with friends around a dining room table with a glass of wine. Have you ever played “Nertz”? If not, you should try it! It’s lots of fun! Isn’t our friends’ baby girl ADORABLE? I’ve got pictures of her I still need to blog! (Yes, again, we are like the only one of our friends who isn’t having a baby right now! Crazy!!)
Now that we are all settled into the house, Aric is back at his projects! I love this for him! Because he so enjoys doing things like this…and he’s SO GOOD. Here he’s building a prototype farmhouse table for our patio, so that next he can build the “real” one for our kitchen with some old reclaimed lumber we got from an antique store near Fredericksburg. I’ll have to take a final picture of the patio table once we’ve got it stained! It looks SO GOOD! Can’t wait to have friends over and cookout!
I’ve been cooking! Haha! I don’t know what I would do without pinterest in my life! So many yummy recipes I’ve been trying! While Aric was working on the table one night, I made a homemade skillet lasagna that was delish! And so quick and easy!
And lastly, as promised! A little sneak peek at our engagement session from last Friday when we got back! And our last February wedding! I told you I was gonna blog better! 😉
Kembra & Dustin are high school sweethearts and truly, it doesn’t get much cuter than them. They were so kind and sweet and adorably in love for their session! I’m so looking forward to their hometown wedding this summer! And so excited for them to be tying the knot!
And a quick teaser from Joanna & Jaymac’s wedding! I just love this couple! I need to blog Joanna’s bridals soon, because those eyes of hers?! Are absolutely incredible! It’s the best when you can tell a couple is REALLY in love, and these two are just that! I loved their ceremony, and my favorite part? When Joanna offered Jaymac a wispers toothbrush before the kiss (per her bridesmaids persuasion)! It was priceless! 😉
Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!!
Here’s just a few of our favorite hugs and kisses and cuddles from the past year!
Remember to kiss your sweetheart today!
I know I know – I’m gonna say it AGAIN – Joanna & Jaymac are another one of our precious 2013 couples! One of which I’m so excited about being a part of their big day!! Go ahead and tell them they’re crazy because they both told us they were not photogenic… Umm…obviously they were wrong!! We had a great time hanging out with them for their session! They made me want to go out and buy a bike so Aric and I could have another fun thing to do together! The couple that rides bikes together, stays together. That’s my new motto! 😉
Enjoy a few favorites from their session!
